Why become a supervisor?
Through the UQ–IITD Research Academy, you can recruit high-calibre students from India, Australia and around the world, to undertake joint PhD projects that address cross-disciplinary grand challenges that align with UQ and IITD’s research strengths.
In addition to student scholarship support, the Academy provides supervisors with funding to support the candidate’s project and collaboration.
This fund can support costs relating to the project including travel and conference participation. Academy projects can support collaboration with industry and external research bodies, whereby external supervisors can join projects as associate supervisors and co-fund student scholarships.
Find a research collaborator
The Academy research projects, and collaboration teams are developed and approved prior to students applying. This ensures the project drives and defines the collaboration and enables the strongest student to be selected for that project.

Complete the request form to be listed in our supervisor database. Please note only current UQ and IITD academics can be listed.
Submit a Joint PhD proposal
When you have established your research team, jointly submit collaborative joint PhD project proposals by Academy deadlines using the UQ–IITD project proposal form. Generally, there are two rounds of project proposal submissions a year to recruit students for the January and July intake. Once your proposal is submitted, the Academy will follow the approval and student recruitment process as outlined in our handbook below.
