Governance of the Academy

UQ–IITD Research Academy is governed by a Joint Venture Board (JVB). Several committees sit under the JVB and are tasked with responsibilities, including strategic oversight, operational management, external engagements, quality assurance, duty of care of students, and compliance with the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act, and relevant Australian and Indian government policy, including research ethics.

Joint Venture Board (JVB)

The Joint Venture Board is an advisory body established to provide strategic governance and oversight of the Academy. The Honorary Board of Directors consists of an equal number of representatives from both UQ and IITD.

Academy Strategic Research Advisory Council (ASRAC)

The ASRAC consists of eminent researchers, academics, and industry and government leaders, who provide advice to the JVB on research priorities and strategies.

Academy Management and Program Committee (AMPC)

The AMPC reports to the JVB. Its functions include approving project budgets, selecting projects, conducting internal promotion within the institutions, promoting partnership development, and overseeing operations. The AMPC ensures joint PhD guidelines are maintained, considers student selections, and approves admissions at each institution. The AMPC receives, considers, and takes appropriate actions on reports from the following sub-committees:

  • Academy Joint Interview Panel (AJIP)
  • Academy Candidature Oversight Sub-Committee (ACOS)
  • Academy Student Milestone Committee (ASMC)

Academy Partnerships and External Engagement Committee (APEC)

The APEC reports to the JVB. Its functions include providing guidance and implementation monitoring of the Academy external engagement strategy to ensure the Academy has strong network and partnerships with government, industry, and other institutions. APEC oversights the Academy’s pursue external funding opportunities, provide directions on agreements and contracts for industry/government funded projects; intellectual property and commercialisation.

Executive and Operations

The Professor-In-Charge of the Academy at IITD (PICA) is the head of the project that sets up and operates the Academy and is the Head of Department at IITD.

Two Program Directors in charge of the Academy’s key functions, Admissions and Operations and Partnerships & Business Development are responsible for day-to-day operations of the Academy. The Program Directors report directly to PICA.
