With developing interest in mathematics, Yash received B.Sc. (Honours) degree in Mathematics from Shivaji College, University of Delhi where he was awarded Certificate of Merit for achieving highest CGPA in all three years. Continuing the interest in the subject, Vats completed M.Sc. in Mathematics from IIT Delhi. Yash has also qualified GATE Mathematics with AIR 46 and is the recipient of CSIR-UGC JRF fellowship. He also received several offers of pursuing PhD in the US. His research interests lie in numerical analysis and understanding brain nervous system through mathematical modelling.
In this PhD project we will use fractional differential equations to model and simulate neuron spiking and protein friction. To run the simulations we will develop numerical schemes which reduce the memory footprint of the memory tail characterising fractional derivatives.
