The University of Queensland (UQ) and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) share a vision for success to contribute to the world through research excellence. To create research impact and build a long-term, sustainable, and mutually beneficial partnership, UQ and IITD have partnered to establish the joint UQ–IITD Research Academy with a view to address global challenges through research partnerships.
For more than a century, UQ has been delivering knowledge leadership for a better world to create positive change for society. UQ consistently ranks among the world’s top universities, reflecting UQ’s global standing; the high quality of their researchers, teaching staff and alumni; and their reputation for excellence.
IITD is one of the first 6 Indian institutions granted the status of Institute of Eminence by the Union Human Resource Development Ministry. IITD is on a mission to generate new knowledge by engaging in cutting-edge research and promoting academic growth.
UQ and IITD have a world-class record for excellence in the fields of health and behavioural sciences, biotechnology and biosciences. By combining our research and expertise in this area, we can work to improve how everyone lives, so that all people have the opportunity to live in a healthy environment. This theme is pivotal in addressing health challenges in both nations, such as ageing populations, rural healthcare access, and emerging diseases.
Quantum technologies have the potential to drive significant innovation and transformation across multiple industries, with extensive geopolitical, societal, and economic implications. Both UQ and IITD are home to Centres of Excellence for quantum technologies, quantum biotechnology, and engineered quantum systems and currently have joint PhD projects in these areas of expertise.
Both Australia and India face significant sustainability challenges, including resources management, climate change, energy transitions, and food sustainability. Research collaboration in sustainability and livelihoods brings out both UQ and IITD’s research strengths to develop transnational solutions for pressing challenges in Australia, India, and at global scale.
Digital transformation is dramatically changing the way business operates and humans interact. AI is a powerful tool to improve e-commerce, robotics, healthcare, and automobiles, and will have a global impact on the future workforce through the transformation of the relationship between people and technology. Both UQ and IITD recognise the long-term implications of digital transformation and AI, and are committed to drive research and innovation in these areas.
Studying societal behaviours and transformations, influencing public policy, exploring new science frontiers, and finding solutions to intractable problems are at the forefront of this research theme. Researchers in the UQ–IITD transnational research partnership have the advantage of putting their work in the context of both nations and study transformations occurring on a larger scale.
Research collaboration in these fields aims to deliver technological solutions for government and industry in manufacturing. Materials science and engineering are among the research strengths with the greatest alignment between UQ and IITD. Both institutions have leading research programs in materials science, which could be important for industries such as manufacturing, construction, and renewable energy – key sectors in both countries.
